Calculation methods are given for the design of the preheating zone, the burning zone and the cooling zone. The heat transfer problem in the burning zone of gas fired kilns is solved by numerical methods. Residence times in the three zones are calculated. The influence of production rate and stone diameter on residence time is shown. Heat losses through the wall are calculated.
