✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The fabrication of a bandpass filter in the ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum with the use of photonic band‐gap (PBG) materials is presented on the basis of the Kronig–Penny model in the band theory of solids. The periodic structure of different dielectrics and semiconductor materials in rectangular symmetry is considered. Illustrative diagrams are presented in order of allowed and forbidden bands of wavelengths. The filter can also act as an efficient ultraviolet monochromator by the appropriate selection of the controlling parameters. The anomalous dispersion behavior of glass and zinc sulphide (ZnS) is discussed. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract In this paper, two different uniform photonic band‐gap (PBG) structures used as stopband filters for microstrip lines at 5.4 GHz are proposed and compared in terms of the pattern shapes' effect on the S‐parameters. This suggests the use of a 1D pattern to reduce the transversal size of

## Abstract A new structure of ultra‐wide band (UWB) band pass filter is proposed in this letter. The proposed UWB filter consists of a low pass filter and a quasi‐high pass filter. The low pass frequency characteristic is realized with a dumbbell defected ground structure (DGS) array and narrow sl
