Abstract

In this paper, the adaptive variable structure control problem is presented for Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy time‐delay systems with uncertainties and external disturbances. The fuzzy sliding surfaces for the T–S fuzzy time‐delay system are proposed by using a Lyapunov function, and we design the adaptive variable structure controllers such that the global T–S fuzzy time‐delay system confined on the fuzzy sliding surfaces is asymptotically stable. One example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed methods. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
