✦ Synopsis

This paper reports the design of a balance sensor which can detect tilt and dlrectlon angles An electromagnetic proximity sensor IS employed for the detectlon of the tilt angle The maximum tilt angle 1s 18 9" On the other hand, the hrectlon angle IS measured by a linear resistive clrcmt and the range of this angle IS 360", with a resolution of 0 0915" Tilt-angle detection IS based on the electromagnetic interaction between a metal ball and a flat thin-film cod, which forms part of an oscillatory circmt The results of different co&geometry parameters are presented It 1s found that the co11 geometry and the umfonty of the thin-film reslstor for detectmg tilt and direction angles, respectively, are very nnportant parameters contnbutmg to the performance of the sensor 1. Capacitance-type sensing systems have few moving parts, making them extremely reliable. They are also free of mechanical hysteresis, and the sensor structure is simple and solid.
