✦ Synopsis
T he following contribution will concentrate on the earliest stages of the design process. In this way, the author hopes to answer some questions in connection with research on the design process. These questions arise from the following descriptions of what experienced designers do.
Dylla has provided a very detailed study on the behaviour of six designers with different designing experience 2,3 . He has identified typical approaches in seeking solutions. Dylla differentiates between 'generating variation' and 'correcting variation'. 'Generating variation' implies searching for several solution variants according to the requirements at hand.
