✦ Synopsis


Test magnet for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) applications using MgB 2 /Fe composite wire is designed and experimentally demonstrated. The magnetizing and screening effects of the Fe sheath, the cooling conditions and the field uniformity are considered carefully during the magnet designing. The diameter of the working space in the demonstration magnet is about 100 mm. The magnet is built and tested at both liquid helium temperature and about 20 K. The magnetic field at the center of the test magnet is about 1.5 T.
