β¦ Synopsis
The aim of the current study was to provide a description of the natural mentors and mentor relationships of urban Latino adolescents. One hundred sixty-two high school sophomores participated in one-on-one structured interviews and were asked to identify a mentor; their relation to the mentor; the mentor's gender, ethnicity, and age; the frequency of contact and length of the mentorship relationship; and type of support provided by the mentor. There was limited variability in the characteristics of the mentors and mentoring relationships. Implications of the definition of mentor for Latino adolescents are discussed.
