โฆ Synopsis
Tin(ZZ) halides react readily with benzoyl peroxide to yield tin(ZV) dihalide dibenzoates and with lead tetraacetate or mercuric acetate to give analogous tin(ZV) dihalide diacetates. With dimethyldisulphide, tin(ZZ) chloride reacts only slowly, but tin(ZZ) bromide reacts during 4 hours in boiling benzene to give SnBr2(SMe),. THF. Molecular oxygen oxidises tin(ZZ) chloride in THF to SnOCIz.I .STHF. A donor-acceptor complex is formed between tin(ZZ) bromide and diethylacetylene dicarboxylate, but carbenoid insertion takes place with tin(ZZ) chloride and the same reagent and also with tin(ZZ) chloride, bromide and iodide and dimethylacetylene dicarboxylate. 1: 1 THF-solvated adducts of composition (SnX2' Et02C-N=N-CO,Et),. THF (X = Cl, Br) are obtained from the facile reaction of tin(ZZ) chloride or bromide with diethyldiazodicarboxylate. The structures of the products have been investigated using infra-red, Raman, 'H n.m.r., and tin-l Z 9m Miissbauer spectroscopy.
