✦ Synopsis

The accumulation of air-borne marine salt on experimental targets at 4 ft. on farm sites within two miles of the western coast of Wales was closely related to standard parameters of weather, notably the speed and direction of the surface wind at standard effective height and the associated fall of rain. Within clearly defined topographic situations, the rate of salt deposition from on-shore winds was determined by proximity to the sea, geomorphic and tree shelter, altitude and exposure to salt laden winds.

Methods

Daily depositions of air-borne marine salt from 09h G.M.T. on targets at 4 ft. after a method by EDWARDS and CLAXTON (1964) were examined in relation to wind and weather from summer 1965 to spring 1967 along a line of six sites running
