Deposited Cffrbon Resistor.--A markedly improved type of deposited carbon resistor, expected to find widespread use in the communications and electronic fields, has been developed at Bell Telephone Laboratories, research and development organization of the Bell System.
In the new resistor, the element boron, as well as carbon, is pyrolitically deposited in a thin film on a suitable ceramic core. The addition of this element, it has been found, gives considerably lower temperature coeffi.cients of resistance than those possessed by plain carbon resistors, as well as good stability. In addition, the new borocarbon resistors provide access to resistance ranges heretofore impossible to attain in stable, accurate film-type resistors. These advantages are expected to permit widespread substitution of borocarbon resistors for the larger and more costly wire wound types.
