## Abstract The membrane potential is mainly maintained by the K^+^ concentration gradient across the cell membrane between the cytosol and the extracellular matrix. Here, we show that extracellular addition of high‐molecular weight hyaluronan depolarized the membrane potential of human fibroblasts
