**Uniform thin films of gold nanoparticles** have been fabricated on gold substrates using a layerβbyβlayer selfβassembly approach (see Figure). The optical properties of these nanoparticle films were characterized using variableβangle spectroscopic ellipsometry, and the data modeled using a Lorentz
