β¦ Synopsis
The authors examine the potential role of the different sources of dendritic Ca2+ influx in long-term depression (LTD) of synaptic efficacy. Recent data on the location and functional distribution of voltage-gated Ca2+ channels obtained from fluorescence imaging and patch clamp experiments are presented. This is followed by a discussion of the existing evidence for different sources of Ca2+ playing a role in the induction of LTD. The authors conclude that a number of key issues

Heterosynaptic LTD is a persisting, activity-dependent decrease in synaptic efficacy that occurs at inactive synapses when postsynaptic depolarization and firing are initiated via another afferent pathway. The induction of heterosynaptic LTD is therefore non-associative, in contrast to the Hebbian i
The present study has investigated the role of ATP in the induction of synaptic plasticity, using local application of ATP by picopump administration into the stratum radiatum of guinea pig hippocampal region CA1. The influence of raising the bath temperature (39 degrees C) on synaptic transmission and neuronal plasticity was studied in the CA1 region of the rat hippocampus using an extracellular recording technique. Increasing the bath temperature from 32 to 39 degrees C resulted in a depression of field exc
## Abstract As with adult major depressive disorder (MDD), child and adolescent MDD is characterized as a common, chronic and recurrent disorder. It is also associated with shortβ and longβterm functional impairment, morbidity, and mortality. Effective treatments, both psychotherapeutic and pharmac
