โœฆ Synopsis

Dear Editor

We read with interest the paper by Zekry and colleagues, recently published in this journal, supporting that the relative contribution of dementia to adverse clinical outcomes is not invariably higher than for other risk factors in a geriatric population. Among 435 acute and rehabilitation hospital patients, the authors found that dementia predicts only discharge to a nursing home but not in-hospital death, length of stay, and formal home care need (Zekry et al., 2009).
