โœฆ Synopsis


The reported incidence of coexisting intrauterine and extrauterine pregnancy (combined or heterotopic pregnancy) is increasing. In 1948, De Voe and Pratt' estimated the incidence as 1 in 30,000 pregnancies. In 1982, Richards et a1.' estimated 1:10,000; in 1983, Reece et al.3 estimated 1:7,693. Most recently (19861, the topic was reviewed by Bello et al.,4 who presented nine additional cases and calculated the recent incidence of heterotopic pregnancy at the Mount Sinai Medical Center to be 1 : 3,889 pregnancies. This is a report of the clinical course and antenatal ultrasound findings in an additional patient with a combined pregnancy that produced living infants. The case is presented with the hope that it may prove useful to others in increasing clinical awareness and suspicion for combined pregnancy.
