β¦ Synopsis
The kinetics and mechanism have been studied for the reaction of ozone with polymers with main chains containing ~ bonds, aromatic rings or saturated hydrocarbon links. The reaction COproceeds through unstable intermediates such as the bipolar ion ~C+--or pcroxy-radicals, which
--H
can isomefiz~ or degrade, causing decomposition of macromolecules. Equations for degradation rates are suggested, taking into account the rates of separate stages of the complex reactions. A method for determining rates and rate constants for reactions of ozone with polymers was found; constants for 12 polymers and important functional groups have been given.
