✦ Synopsis

The l o s s of h i s t i d i n e and t h e formation of a d d i t i o n a l by-products during t h e p u r i f i c a t i o n and etorage of c14C(U]-L-histidine p r e p a r a t i o n s on chromatographic carriers was followed. The product formed mainly on chrometographic pap e r was i d e n t i f i e d a s the condensation product of h i s t i d ine with formaldehyde; on t h i n l a y e r of s i l i c a gel mainly degradation products of h i s t i d i n e were obtained. Pocrsibilit i e s t o decrease t h e f o r m t i o n of t h e s e undesirable by-products were discueaed.
