✦ Synopsis

The semi-empirical shell-dependent nuclear-level-density formula proposed earlier has been extended in the present work to include explicitly the deformation dependence degree of freedom. The modified formula reproduces well the decrease in the most probable deformation parameter with increasing excitation energy in agreement with the results of microscopic shell-model calculations. At around 8 MeV excitation energy, this formula predicts enhanced nuclear level densities for deformed nuclei by a factor 1.5-3 over values cafculated without including the deformation degree of freedom and are in agreement with the observed data.

Astrophysical reaction rates are sensitive to the parity distribution at low excitation energies. We combine a formula for the energy-dependent parity distribution with a microscopic-macroscopic nuclear level density. This approach describes well the transition from low excitation energies where a s
