✦ Synopsis

A decoupled formulation of the nonlinear optimal load flow problem is presented in which the computer memory requirement is considerably reduced by eliminating the equalities as separate constraints. The problem is decoupled into two nonlinear real and reactive power subproblems to schedule the real and reactive output of generators within their prescribed limits. Security and voltage constraints are included in the problem. A new, simple technique is presented to handle the coupling between the two subproblems and make their sequential solution converge to the solution of the original problem without the necessity of iteration with the A C load flow solution. Successful results on the IEEE 30-bus system are presented.
