## Abstract This paper reports on the synthesis of a new highly reactive diisocyanate monomer based on hydroxymethylfurfural. It further describes its catalyst‐free conversion to linear‐chain thermoplastic polyurethanes as well as to cross‐linked polyurethane foams. In addition, a novel strategy fo
