1 he nature of lead oxides changes as they catalyse the decomposition of peroxides° ]~uring the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide lead monoxides changed to a pseudo-cubic lead oxide ~t temperatures betweea about 150 ° and 440°C, and to Pb304 above about 440°C. With t-butyl hydroperoxide at 100°C, lead monoxides appeared to acquire a thin coating of the pseudo-cubic lead oxide. The results provide a better tmderstanding of the mode of catalytic action of lead oxides on peroxides and they also provide some insight into the role of lead oxides as anti.knock agents in gasolines.
