The decomposition of 1,3,5-trioxane has been studied in shock waves by the laser schlieren technique from 900 to 3000 K. Dissociation was observed over the range 950-1270 K, the measurements confirming that formaldehyde is the sole product. An RRKM fit to the measured rates suggests log,&,(s-') = (

The unimolecular decomposition of 1,3,5-trioxane into three formaldehyde molecules has been studied thermally at eight temperatures between 523 and 603 K using mixtures highly diluted with Ar. Under these conditions, the only decomposition product detected by means of FTIR analysis was formaldehyde.

Absolute rate constants are measured for the reactions: OH + CH20, over the temperature range 296-576 K and for OH + 1,3,5-trioxane over the range 292-597 K. The technique employed is laser photolysis of H,O, or HNO, to produce OH, and laserinduced fluorescence to directly monitor the relative OH co
