✦ Synopsis

Using temperature-programmed secondary ion mass spectroscopy (TPSIMS), we find a significant kinetic isotope effect in the decomposition of chemisorbed methyl groups derived from methyl iodide. When methyl groups decompose, there is no evidence for the accumulation of CHI or CH.
