Cin, who has been hired to organize the papers and instruments that remain at the Bathgate music school, meets Father Michael, a Jesuit priest on a mission to find out what happened to his uncle Donald who was himself a Bathgate student fifty years ago.
The discovery of the theft of musical manuscripts coincides with a series of attacks on Angie Bathgate, Cin and Father Michael. As the two mysteries converge, Cin finds herself fighting for her life. Can she unearth the reasons behind the violence or will she join the forgotten decomposing manuscripts?
