✦ Synopsis

The very neutron-deficient isotopes n4-118Ba were produced in 58Ni induced reactions on 58Ni, 6°Ni or 63Cu targets. By on-line mass separation of BaF molecules formed in the separator ion source, exceptionally pure sources of these isotopes were available for spectroscopic studies. The 043 +0.30 s), nSBa = t-decays of n4Ba (Tl/2 = • -o.15

(Tl/2 = 0.45 ± 0.05 s), ll6Ba (T1/2 1.3 i 0.2 s) and nSBa (T1/2 = 5.2 + 0.2 s) were investigated for the first time. llnBa, nSBa and ll6Ba were identified as t-delayed proton emitters and absolute branching ratios for this decay mode were determined to be 204-10%, >15%, and 3 4-1%, respectively. In the decay study of llSBa several y transitions were identified. New information was also obtained on the t-delayed 9' radiation of n7Ba. The spectroscopic data were used to determine the production cross-sections for all these isotopes. Results of our half-life measurements and t-delayed proton studies are confronted with theoretical predictions. (~ 1997 Elsevier Science B.V,
