โœฆ Synopsis

resistance to a wide range ol chemicals and an cxceptionally low chloride content thai enables it to resist corrosio;l. The product's outstandin~ chemical and physical properties derive from the use of 9% pure exfoliated graphite without any binding agents. During manulacture, pure Supagraf is compressed onto reinlorcing sheets of perforated stainless steel to lorm a mechanically locked composite material. Reinlorcing in,proves substantially the handlin~ strength of the sheel and allows cut gaskets lo sustain much hiKher compressive loads in a llan,~e .joint withoul (:rushing.

The resulting material is so tough thai. for optimum resulls James Walker uses a CAD/CAM controlled abrasive water-jct cutter to produce all aaskets from Supagraf T I 0. This gives a ve.ry accurate and cleanly cut l)iofile with no rough edges. Also by usin~ nesting paltern software, James Walker ensures that the inaximum tmmber of gaskets are cut from a single sheet.

A special coating can be applied to enhance ihe anli slick properties of the malerial.

## Applying mechanical seals to centrifugal pumps Understanding the variety of conditions a mechanical seal may potentially encounter is essential to satisfactory and reliable sealing of a centrifugal pump. Stan Shiels discusses how these potential variations are assessed and the key areas which m
