โœฆ Synopsis

Terrestrial dark matter detection experiments probe the velocity space distribution of dark matter in the vicinity of the Earth. In principle, cosmological N-body simulations of structure formation may be used to estimate this distribution function. Unfortunately, in even the largest simulations presently available one cannot adequately map a truly local velocity space distribution function. In this talk, we describe two methods that attempt to circumvent this resolution problem. The implications of our results for present and future dark matter experiments are discussed. *widrowQastro.queensu.ca, Direct detection of axions is, in some respects, stiffdQastro.queensu.ca conceptually simpler. In a magnetic field, an ax-
