✦ Synopsis

Danckwerts' degree of segregation for the axial dispersion model has been calculated using some values of the Peclet number. The Monte Carlo technique has been applied to simulate a random walk, which is the discrete approximation of the axial dispersion model. The axial dispersion model's degree of mixing does not reach the state of maximum mixedness.

## Abstract An axial dispersion model for the operation of a fixed‐bed adsorber with a linear adsorption isotherm was formulated and solved analytically using the separation of variables method. The asymptotic solution for a large Peclet number and/or a small operation time was also obtained using

In this paper are presented four convenient methods for determination of the mean residence time and the axial dispersion coefficient of a flow system by analysis of data obtained by means of the imperfect tracer pulse method. The analysis is based upon numerical evaluation of the transfer function
