DaimlerChrysler engine uses Federal-Mogul seals
Federal-Mogul
Corp of Southfield, Michigan, USA, has developed and is manufacturing a complete sealing system for DaimlerChrysler's 5.7-litre HEMI Magnum V-8 engine.
According to Federal-Mogul, the engine reflects a systematic approach to sealing, integrating premium elastomeric materials and manufacturing practices to ensure a leak-free, weep-free power plant.
Mike Fisher, Federal-Mogul's vice president, sealing systems, said: "Many companies may have strength in one area of sealing or another, but we were able to fulfil DaimlerChrysler's request because we are able to manufacture all sealing components and understand the complexities of the entire engine environment."
The company says that it has taken about four years to develop the sealing system. It had four fulltime design, product and application engineers dedicated to the project, in addition to many other employees that were involved in the programme.
Seven Federal-Mogul engineering and manufacturing facilities around the world were involved during the launch of the programme from initial product sampling to production, and several Federal-Mogul facilities in the USA and Mexico manufactured separate sealing components.
