The sudden death of Dr. D. S. RAWSON, head of the Deparhmeiit of Biology at the University of Saskatchewan, has deprived limnology of one of its ablest and best known men. For over 30 years RAWSON worked on the North Americanlakes, collecting data of the kind which form the empirical basis of limnology. As a regional limnologist he worked on Lake Simcoe in Ontario, on lakes in British Columbia, alpine lakes in the Rockies, saline and northern lakes in Saskatchewan and Great Slave Lake jn the subarctic. Of his many studies those of Great Slave Lake are the most notable
