Supernumerary segments have been observed in five species of grasshoppers: Calliptamus barbarus, Oedipodafuscocincta, Acrotylus insubricus, Omocestus raymondiand Chorthippus ariasi. In four cases they are located in the S-chromosomes, but in A. insubricus they are carried by the megameric pair (M,).
