✦ Synopsis

ETICULAR NEOPLASMS OF MAN LONG HAVE R been the subject of considerable discussion regarding their nature, genesis and relationship to the other disorders, particularly to the leukemic diseases. Recent advances in cytogenetic techniques of mammalian cells have facilitated precise and reliable analyses of chromosome conditions in lymphomas of man, thus providing essential data for evaluation of the etiological problems of these dis-

The present paper deals with the chromosome constitution of tumor cells and cells from peripheral blood and/or sternal marrow of 2 patients with malignant lymphoma. ea~es.5-7. 9, 10 CASE REPORTS Case 1. Patient 333 was a 31-year-old man. Since October 1962 he had experienced easy fatigability. In March 1963 his tonsils were remarkably enlarged. On April 28 he was admitted to the Hokkaido University Hospital with dysphagia due to enlarged cervical lymph nodes. Clinical examination revealed prominent enlargement of cervical, supraclavicular, axillary, inguinal and abdominal subcu taneous lymph nodes. A considerable amount of ascites fluid also was noted. The ascites fluid contained a large number of cells of unknown nature, characterized by round large nuclei.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are frequently associated with the disease neurofibromatosis type 1. Only few recurrent cytogenetic changes have been reported, including rearrangements of the short arm of chromosome 9. By fluorescence in situ hybridization with a centromere 9 probe
