✦ Synopsis

BACKGROUND.

Preoperative assessment of the biologic characteristics of primary breast carcinoma is important because neoadjuvant medical therapy is being used increasingly. In the current study, the authors attempted to evaluate the validity of cyclin D1 assay in fine-needle aspiration (FNA) samples from patients with primary breast carcinoma.

METHODS.

FNA samples were obtained prior to therapy and multiple slides were stored at -80 Β°C for subsequent immunocytochemical analysis (ICA). ICA for cyclin D1 protein was performed on FNA samples from 51 breast carcinoma patients and 20 samples from patients with benign breast disease. In 45 breast carcinoma patients who had undergone surgery, sections were taken from paraffin blocks and stained by ICA for cyclin D1 validation. Possible correlations between cyclin D1 expression in the FNA samples and the biologic data of the patients also were analyzed.

## BACKGROUND. The cyclin D1 gene is amplified and/or overexpressed in several types of human cancer, including cancers of the breast, esophagus, head, and neck. However, the role of cyclin D1 in prostate cancer has not been previously studied in detail. METHODS. Six human prostate cancer cell lin

## BACKGROUND. Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (HPCS) are associated with an extremely poor prognosis. Generally, conventional clinicopathologic factors have only limited value as prognostic factors for this malignancy. It is therefore clinically important to identify new prognostic factor

Cyclin-D1 over-expression represents one of several common alterations in the G 1 -S transition associated with malignancies. Conclusive evidences indicate that cyclin D1 is a proto-oncogene and the gene is amplified or rearranged in different tumour types. Since very little is known about aberratio

## Abstract Cyclin D1 is a well‐known cell cycle regulator. Recently, its pro‐survival function has been revealed in several tumors. Because increasing expression of cyclin D1 is a common event in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and has been correlated with cisplatin resistance, we investigated
