✦ Synopsis
The results of research carried out by Hansen in the early 1940s on ''ideal'' re-entrant ca¨ity geometries has generated data which permit, through graphical methods, the prediction of the performance and characteristics of such resonators. These data are still relied upon today in the design of re-entrant ca¨ities for use in, for example, microwa¨e tubes and microwa¨e filters. In an attempt to impro¨e the design process for re-entrant ca¨ities which are more representati¨e of ''real'' ca¨ity configurations, a series of EM simulations ha¨e been performed to pro¨ide more precise characteristics for design purposes. Simulations of a range of cylindrical re-entrant resonant ca¨ities ha¨e been carried out, and corrections to the Hansen data are suggested.
