✦ Synopsis

In the ultrasonic extracorporeal litholyzer, one method of preventing misradiation is to emit a trigger pulse before emitting the shock wave, in order to verify that the calculus exists in the focal region. This paper shows that the cylindrical-coordinate FD-TD method is useful in highly accurate analysis of the behavior of the trigger pulse used in this method in the human body. First, the basic algorithm of the cylindrical coordinate FD-TD method is described. Then, the method is applied to the analysis of the trigger pulse propagation. The result of calculation is compared to the results obtained by a conventional method and the results of experiments. The scattering by a spherical calculus placed in the focal region is analyzed, and it is shown that the results agree well with the results of calculation by the conventional method. Lastly, the results of analysis for scattering by a semispherical calculus placed in the focal region is also presented.
