A 1 1 stolcluometrlc ratlo and a formanon constant of 130 1 mot-' were obtamed for the bmary mcluslon complex between acenaphthene and @cyclodextrm (CD) On addtion of 2-bromcethanol, effectrve quenchmg of the fluorescence emlsS]on and enhancement of the room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) of acenaphthene 1s observed The use of 2-bromoethanol as an external "heavy atom" to obtam room-temperature phosphorescence m fhud solutions 1s &cussed The RTP ennsslon from accnaphthene Included m @-CD was optlmlzed and characterlzed The apparent formatlon constant of the ternary associate was determmed to be 880 1 mol-' by the use of RTP enhancement m the presence of 1% 2-bromoethanol The data mdlcate a ternary assocmtlon between acenaphthene, @-CD and the bromo alcohol The use of sodrum sulfite, for chenucal deoxygenatlon, to obtain RTP emission from a non-heavy atom-contalmng lummophor 1s shown to be feasible The kmetlcs of the deoxygenatlon reachon were established and a photochenucal catalytic effect on the reaction was demonstrated
