✦ Synopsis

The cyclization dynamics of pyrene end-labelled poly(ethylene oxide) (mol. wt 1070, 1350 and 3700) have been studied in both poor and good solvents. The observed dependence of the cyclization rate constant on the molecular weight is not in accord with the "'bead-spring" model or with cyclizauon probabilities calculated from equilibrium chain-end distributions. In plots of In k vs In M, slopes close to unity are found; no increase in slope is observed on going from theta to good solvents.
