## Abstract Let __A__ belong to the Schatten‐von Neumann ideal __S~p~__ for 0 < __p__ < ∞. We give an upper bound for the operator norm of the resolvent (__zI__ – __A__)^–1^ of __A__ in terms of the departure from normality of __A__ and the distance of __z__ to the spectrum of __A__. As an applicat
