β¦ Synopsis
Periodically segmented waveguides (PSWs) are analyzed using a finite-difference beam propagation method (BPM) combined with a coordinate rotation technique. For the analysis of curved PSW, a new technique is proposed to apply the BPM to a waveguide with large propagation angle such as 40Β°or more, and the curvature effect is taken into consideration in the analysis. The method is applied to treating two kinds of two-dimensional (2-D) PSW, namely straight and bent waveguides with a fixed curvature. For designing 2-D straight PSW, the propagation dependence on the segment period, duty-cycle, etc. is investigated numerically.
