✦ Synopsis

Results of critical current density measurements of bulk Nb-AI-Ge both as-cast and heattreated samples are given in this paper. In steady magnetic fields up to 10 T, the current densities 103---3 x 104 A cm -2 have been reached. The optimal heat treatment of samples led to the enhancement of T c in all cases, but its influence on Jc was not significant and unambiguous. In some cases.a small enhancement Of Jc , and in other cases lower Jc was observed after sample annealing.

Many intensive studies carried out by numerous research teams practically all over the world have been concentrated for at least the last decade on high field, high current superconductors with the aim of obtaining the highest magnetic fields at the highest possible temperatures. In this area a great deal of attention has been paid recently to Nb-AI-Ge and Nb-Ge systems, which are the superconducting materials with the highest T c and Hc= known at present.
