✦ Synopsis

The last Cumulative Subject Index for the Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy appeared in December 1983 to recognize the publication of Volume 100. Since then, computer searches of electronic databases for specific topics have become more efficient and rapid, but there is still no substitute for the way that a cumulative index gives the same information and at the same time reminds readers of interesting articles that they may have missed or even forgotten about. The present index covers the next 70 volumes, up to April 1995, when Professor K. Narahari Rao of Ohio State University stepped down from the editorship. The index recognizes Professor Rao's many contributions to the Journal and to the spectroscopy community, listing the papers published during the last 12 years of his editorship.

Organic molecules are listed in the order of their empirical formulae, as recommended by the IUPAC (where carbon comes first even if it is not alphabetically first). Inorganic compounds are indexed by their structural formulae, with ionic compounds listed alphabetically as cation-anion.
