β¦ Synopsis
A new index suitable for computing molecular similarity based upon the similarity of molecular properties such as electrostatic potentials or electrostatic fields is presented in two forms. For one form of the present index, general conditions are established for which a linear measure of similarity is obtained. An illustrative example is provided in which the electrostatic field and electrostatic potential of guanine obtained from different wave functions are compared.

The use of a multipolar decomposition of the far electrostatic potential for the purposes of molecular field similarity comparison between structurally different molecules has been impractical because the multipolar decomposition depends on the center of expansion. That center of expansion is essent
## Abstract The exact representation of the molecular density by means of atomic expansions, consisting in spherical harmonics times analytical radial factors, is employed for the calculation of electrostatic potentials, fields, and forces. The resulting procedure is equivalent to an atomic multipo
Protein electrostatics plays a key role in ligand binding and protein-protein interactions. Therefore, similarities or dissimilarities in electrostatic potentials can be used as indicators of similarities or dissimilarities in protein function. We here describe a method to compare the electrostatic
MEPSIM is a computational system which allows an integrated computation, analysis, and comparison of molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) distributions. It includes several modules. Module MEPPLA supplies MEP values for the points of a grid defined on a plane which is specified by a set of three
