โฆ Synopsis
In their paper "Sinusoidal Endothelial Cells from Normal Guinea Pig Liver: Isolation, Culture and Characterization" (Hepatology 1984, 4:591-602), Shaw et al. state that "such (Fc) receptors have not been detected in isolated rat or mouse endothelial cells". I should like to correct this point. In 1982, we demonstrated that endothelial cells isolated from the rat liver have (Fc) receptors lacks C3 receptors (1).
The authors claim that endothelial cells do not attach to untreated glass surfaces or plastic. This may be the case if one uses pronase to isolate the cells, as they do, however, if collagenase is used, murine and human endothelial cells definitelv attach to untreated surfaces (2, 3).
I agree with the view that endothelial liver cells are important in clearing the sinusoid of foreign particles. Virus particles, for example, are taken up by endothelial cells without being coated with IgG (3).

Compatible organic osmolytes, such as betaine and taurine are involved in the regulation of Kupffer cell (KC) function, but nothing is known about osmolytes in liver endothelial cells. Targeting of cells to specific tissues is critical for cell therapy. To study endothelial cell targeting, we isolated mouse liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSEC) and examined cell biodistributions in animals. To identify transplanted LSEC in tissues, we labeled cells metabolically with DiI-conju
