The title compound, C 29 H 24 O 2 , has mirror symmetry with the cyclopropane C atoms lying on the mirror plane. The fluorene system is essentially planar and makes dihedral angles of 91.43 (4) and 23.50 (6) with the cyclopropane and substituted benzene rings, respectively.
The synthesis of l,l-dimethyl-l-silacyclopent-5-enes from the alkali metal induced 1,4-addition of dimethyldichlorosilane to 1,5-dienes' has been dramatically extended by Dunogues, Calas and coworkers2 through the use of magnesium as the metal and hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA) as the solvent. This
