β¦ Synopsis
At 800-850Β°C in air the Ba(Sb, Bi, Pb)Os system is pseudo-ternary showing an extended solid solution series in the inner part. In the binary section between the two superconducting perovskites BaPb0.r5BiclsOs and BaPb&bc150s an increasing Sb-content is correlated with a decreasing T, and a transition from monoclinic to tetragonal symmetry. A single crystal study of a BaPbc.,cSbr,.2cBis.orOs crystal showed that solid solution members with lower BaPbOs-content than those of the BaPbo.rl(Sb, Bi)Os intersection become cubic. Valency investigations on Sb in BaPba.&Bi, Sb)O.zsOJ and BaPbc.,ISb0.z50s by '*'Sb-M&asbauer spectroscopy confvmed the valency of Sb to be 5 + independently of composition.
