β¦ Synopsis
Murdochitc-type (\left(\mathrm{Ni}{1-x} \mathrm{Mg}{8}\right){6} \mathrm{MnO}{8}(0 \leq x \leq 0.6)) was synthesized at (873 \mathrm{~K}) using the precursor method. The cell constants, the ( (\mathrm{Ni}, \mathrm{Mg})-\mathrm{O}) distance, and the (\mathrm{Mn}-\mathrm{O}) distance linearly increase with increasing (x). These increases depend on the difference between the ionic radii of the (\mathrm{Ni}^{2+}) and the (\mathrm{Mg}^{2+}) ions. The results of the magnetic measurement display a step in the (1 / \mathcal{X}-\boldsymbol{T}) curve, which corresponds to the NΓ©el temperature (\left(T_{\mathrm{N}}\right)). This step is caused by the mixture of the antiferromagnetic cluster due to the (\mathbf{9 0}^{\circ}) superexchange interaction (\left(\mathrm{Ni}^{2+}, \mathrm{Mg}^{2+}\right)-\mathrm{O}-\left(\mathrm{Ni}^{2+}, \mathrm{Mg}^{2+}\right)) and paramagnetic spins for the (\left(\mathrm{Ni}^{2+}, \mathbf{M g}^{2+}\right)-\mathbf{O}-\mathbf{M n}^{4+}) bond.
