β¦ Synopsis
Gd 3 Zn 4.7 Al 6.3 crystallizes in the La 3 Al 11 -type of structure (space group Immm, Z ΒΌ 2, a ΒΌ 0.42523(6), b ΒΌ 1.2541(2), c ΒΌ 0.9988(4) nm). The magnetization and specific heat measured as function of temperature and magnetic field indicate an antiferromagnetic ground state and altogether three magnetic phase transitions at T N ΒΌ 26.3 K, T C1 ΒΌ 11.2 K and T C2 ΒΌ 8.0 K. A metamagnetic transition can be induced at low temperatures in magnetic fields above 5 T.

An Nd 3 + :Ca 9 Gd(VO 4 ) 7 crystal with dimensions of +25 Γ 30 mm 3 was grown by the Czochralski method. The hardness, thermal expansion coefficient and thermal conductivity coefficient of the crystal were measured. The spectroscopic characteristics of Nd 3 + :Ca 9 Gd(VO 4 ) 7 crystals were investi
