β¦ Synopsis
The lead oxide hydroxide nitrate, Pb 3 O 2 (OH)(NO 3 ), has been synthesized by hydrothermal methods. The crystal structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray di4raction and re5ned to R1 β«Ψβ¬ 0.044. The compound is orthorhombic, space group Pca2 1 , a β«Ψβ¬ 14.149(2) A s , b β«Ψβ¬ 8.7668(12) A s , c β«Ψβ¬ 5.7124(8) A s , V β«Ψβ¬ 708.6(2) A s 3 , Z β«Ψβ¬ 4. The structure is based on [O 2 Pb 3 ] chains of edge-sharing (OPb 4 ) tetrahedra that are parallel to the c axis. The chains are linked by (OH)Pb 2 dimers to Pb 3 O 2 sheets that are parallel to (100). (NO 3 ) triangles are parallel to the (001) plane. The Pb coordination polyhedra are strongly distorted due to the in6uence of lone pair electrons.
