Crystal and Molecular Structure of the Smectogen 1 =[4-n-heptylbenzoyl] -2-[cyanoacetyl] lhydrazine The compound 1-[4-n-heptylbenzoyl]-2-[cyanoacetyl]-hydrazine crystallizes in the triclinic space group PI with two niolecules in the unit cell and the lattice parameters a = 4.702, b = 8.640, c = 20.906 A, a = 97.50, j3 = 92.79, y = 100.19O. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least squares calculations t o the final residual value R = 0.039. Die Verbindung 1-[4-n-Heptylbenzoyl]-2-[cyanoacetyl]-hydrazin kristallisiert in der triklinen Raunigruppe PI mit zwei Molekiilen in der Elementarzelle und den Gitterparametern a = 4,702, b = 8,640, c = 20,906A, a = 97,50, j3 = 92,79, y = 100,19O. Die Struktur wurde mit direkten Methoden gcliist und mit der Methode der kleinsten Quadrate bis zii einem abschliel3enden R-Wcrt von 0,039 verfeinert.
