El pueblo de Cryer’s Cross se conmueve hasta los cimientos por la tragedia que representa la desaparición de una alumna recién llegada al Instituto. Desaparece sin dejar rastro. Aunque Kendall Fletcher no tenía gran amistad con ella, la angustia que el hecho le produce dispara su Trastorno Obsesivo Compulsivo. Cuando otro estudiante desaparece, y se trata ahora de alguien muy próximo al corazón de Kendall, la comunidad se indigna.
